Our Commitment to Your Privacy and Security

Jan 30, 2025

With the current political landscape in the U.S., it is more important than ever before to know who has access to your personal data and how they can use it.

At AKESO, we understand that sharing your health information is extremely personal. You need to be able to trust that your sensitive data will always be kept private and secure.

Since day one, the AKESO health tracker has been designed with your data’s privacy and security in mind.

How Do We Protect Your Data?

All of the data you save to the AKESO Health Tracker is end-to-end encrypted. This means that the metrics you enter are protected from the moment they’re saved. And no one — not even us — can access it without your explicit consent.

All your health data is anonymized and decoupled from your personally identifiable information (PII). This ensures that even if someone accesses your data, they can not identify you in any way.

You can also choose to remain anonymous when using the AKESO health tracker. Sharing your PII is voluntary and not required to use our essential services.

Working Towards GDPR Compliance

In early 2025, we’re making our security practices fully compliant with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

As the world’s strictest privacy and security law, GDPR ensures that your data is protected to the highest standard.

Here’s what we’ve accomplished so far:

  • GDPR-Compliant Hosting: Your saved data is already stored with secure, GDPR-compliant hosting services in Europe.
  • Server Migration: Our health community has been migrated to European servers, with our website hosting transition currently in progress.
  • Data Access and Control: You can request a copy of your personal data or have it deleted at any time.
  • Minimal Data Retention: We only store your information for as long as necessary.
  • Explicit Consent: No one can access your data without your permission.
  • Privacy-First Policies: Your data is always private, secure, and protected.
  • Staff Education: Our team receives regular training in data privacy, and access to personal data is strictly limited.

By becoming fully GDPR compliant, we can guarantee you are always in control of your own data and that it is being kept secure following the strictest security measures.

What About The CLOUD Act (2018)?

In March 2018, the U.S. government enacted the Clarifying Lawful Overseas Use of Data (CLOUD) Act. This act grants U.S. authorities the ability to request data stored on U.S.-based servers for certain law enforcement activities, even if that data belongs to individuals or companies outside of the country.

To eliminate this potential privacy concern, we have taken deliberate steps to ensure your data is always protected.

All of our services are hosted on —  or are being migrated to — European servers that are not subject to the provisions of the CLOUD Act.

We are committed to ensuring that your personal health data is yours alone. No one should be able to access it, no matter where you live or where it is hosted.

What’s Next?

While we’re working toward full GDPR compliance, we’re also planning ahead to meet Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards. We know that sensitive health information needs to be handled with care, and you should always have the final say in how your data is accessed.

We’ll keep you updated on our progress as we continue to increase our security and privacy features over the coming months.

At AKESO, we want you to feel confident that your private data is safe, secure, and always yours.
